Recombine Members ( Modeling )

Tool summary :

  • Recombines members that have been broken apart.
  • In other words, Recombine Members can be used in Modeling to undo a Break Member Apart operation.
  • The members will recombine under a single member piecemark and will be auto detailed on the same member detail.
  • Also, the check box for " Break apart " will be unchecked on the recombined member's edit window.

   Step-by-step instructions :

The following instructions assume that you are in using a 3-button mouse. You must do either step 1 (preselection) or step 3 (in-tool selection) to perform this operation.

1 (optional) : In Select Items mode with the selection filter set to ' Default ' or ' Members ' or etc., Select one member that you want to recombine. When selected, the member will be displayed in the " Primary selection color ," which by default is green.

You can select the original member or one of the miscellaneous members that were broken off from the original member -- either way, the original association of the item with the member it was originally a part of is remembered. You can use the default selection filter to do this.

2 . Invoke Recombine Members using any one (1) of the following methods in Modeling :

  • On your ribbon, click the Recombine Members icon. If the icon is not currently on your toolbar, you can add it using the Ribbon Editor . In the Ribbon Editor for Modeling , choose Model -- Member > Recombine Members .
  • Use a keyboard shortcut (if one has been set up). Recombine Members is in the keyboard configuration " Command group " called ' Model -- Member '.
  • Use the appropriate mouse binding in the appropriate mode. In Mode Configuration , the tool can be selected from the " Command group " called ' Model -- Member '.

3 (if you didn't do step 1) : Locate - Pan - Return mouse bindings become active.

Alternative 1 : Place the mouse pointer ( ) on the member you want to recombine, then left-click ( Locate ).

Alternative 2 : Right-click ( Return ) to cancel this operation and keep everything as it was before step 1. Do not continue.

4 . One of the following happens.

Possibility 1 : If you did step 1 (preselection) but did not select a member (or material) that was broken apart, the operation will end, but nothing will have changed.

Possibility 2 : If you did step 3 (in-tool selection) and you selected a member that was not broken apart, you will get a dialog box with a message stating " This member has not been broken apart ." Press the " OK " button. Everything remains as it was before step 1.

Possibility 3 : The member you selected in step 1 or 3, along with all other members that were broken apart, will be recombined with the member that it was originally Broken Apart from. The check box for " Break apart " will be unchecked on the recombined member's edit window.

Tip: If a member was made graphical after it was broken apart, Recombine Members does not reset the graphical flag. You may want to open the affected member's edit window and manually change " Graphical " to " Graphical ."
